This #GivingTuesday, Help Nonprofits Helping Seniors

by Blair Stokes

Giving Tuesday is giving Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping sprees a run for their money. As a charitable response to holiday consumerism, Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving celebrated online and on social media with the hashtag, #GivingTuesday.

Last year, the movement raised nearly $117 million in online donations and engaged 700,000 donors. This Tuesday, Nov. 29 marks the holiday’s fifth year and invites people to give what they can to causes they care about.

At Kinnser, we care about the millions of homebound senior citizens who need the generous support of caregivers and organizations tirelessly working on their behalf. Whether it’s time, money, talent, or resources, we think everyone has something to give. How will give this year?

We encourage you to get in on the Giving Tuesday generosity and support these organizations helping seniors:

  • Meals on Wheels America
You can help seniors maintain their independence at home by delivering nutritious meals to people in your community. Volunteering your time or donating to your community chapter can make all the difference in someone’s life.
  • Pets for the Elderly Foundation
Loneliness is a serious problem for seniors. The companionship of a pet can help. This foundation has successfully placed 57,000 pets from animal shelters into the homes of lonely seniors. Your donation saves two lives at once. Funds cover adoption fees, veterinary exams, and spaying/neutering.
  • Alzheimer’s Association
Alzheimer’s and other dementias currently affect over 5 million Americans, but the Alzheimer’s Association envisions a world without this disease. Donate to support Alzheimer’s research, care, and support networks. This Giving Tuesday, each donation will be matched.
  • American Heart Association
Heart disease is the leading cause of death around the world. You can help fund public health research, advocacy and education on heart disease and stroke so seniors can live healthier, better lives.
  • American Lung Association
Donate to support lung health, advocate for healthy air, and prevent lung disease from affecting seniors and their families. On Giving Tuesday, individual donations will be matched up to $10,000.
  • American Diabetes Association
In 2012, 29 million Americans were living with diabetes, and many seniors need home health care due to this disease. You can help improve their lives and help them fight the disease with your donations. On Giving Tuesday, donations will make double the impact — each donation will be matched.
